I have been tasked with investigating methods of interfacing
Macintoshes with VAXes. What we need to do is transfer a large
number of bulky source files from VAX to a Mac-readable removable
HD.
The current method that is employed involves setting up the Mac as
a virtual terminal on the terminal cluster. File transfers take place at
4800 or 9600 bps, and I don't know whether any error correction
takes place.
Is there anyone out there in net.land who knows of a better way to
do this? There's gotta be a way to get an ethernet going between Mac
and VAX. Even better would be a way for the VAX to drive the HD
directly, through a special controller. I'm very ignorant about VAX
hardware, though...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AdvTHANKSance,
Dave
