I know that this is blasphemy but.....is there a MS-DOS Nu-Bus board? I routinely need to transfere files between the IBM<>Macintosh<>Sun computers. If I could run MS-DOS applications on the Mac, I could get rid of one very painful step, using a P.C.

Dear John - Instead of getting a NuBus board, go out and buy Soft PC from Insignia Solutions Inc. It will run on the Macintosh II, Macintosh SE/30, and Macintosh Portable. It has an SRP of 399.00. It comes complete with MS-DOS (3.3), GW Basic (3.0). Any program that will run on an XT will run on Soft PC. I hear tell that they are working on an AT version. They also have an educational price of 149.00 Hope this helps you! -- Jordan Mattson UUCP: jordan@apple.apple.com Apple Computer, Inc. Has anyone really had any experiance with that Soft PC? I saw it run on the new 40mhz Mac II last weekend and it pulled a norton SI rating of about 8 or 10 mhz, which is about your average "turbo" XT. While this sounds nice, I can't imagine what it would be like on my 16mhz Mac II. The dealer guessed about 1mhz. For $400 you could probably find yourself a decent used clone, and for a hundred or so extra, an AT at that! Having never really tried it though, I can't speak for sure. Has anyone really investigated it's ability? How about the software that allows your to run Apple II software on the Mac? Does it really allow all that much software to work on the Mac II? -Douglas Mason -- Douglas T. Mason | douglas@ddsw1.UUCP or dtmason@m-net |

SoftPC is the way to go...and they do have an AT version with EGA resolution. Now all I need to do is save up for that IIfx motherboard upgrade. I should be ready about the time the 040 macs are out. ;) -David ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David L. The SoftPC AT 286 VGA upgrade forms are in the mail. I saw one today and the upgrade cost was $100 if I remember correctly. I wonder when the discount houses will be shipping the upgraded package? I also wonder if Orange Micro is planning a 386 upgrade for their Mac 286 product. (At least I hope so, since we have three Mac 286 boards.) Tim Oravec Agronomy Dept. Penn State U.
