What would cause certain characters in a Word 4.0 file on a floppy to change from one font to another on different Macs, even if the same font is installed on both computers? Here's what's happening: One of the departments on campus has a couple of non-networked Mac SEs with hard disks, each in a different room. One has an ImageWriter, one has a LaserWriter. The fonts installed on both computers include LNewYork (that's right ... LNewYork, a foreign language font). A Word 4.0 document was created on the ImageWriter-equipped Mac in which certain characters are in the LNewYork font. The users do set the Chooser on that Mac to LaserWriter, since they know the document will be laser printed. When they open the same file on the laser Mac, the LNewYork characters have changed into Bookman. Even though LNewYork is there. It sounds like font ID number conflicts, but I thought that problem went away several Systems ago. (They're running 6.0.2 and 6.0.3.) It did, except that Microsoft is still storing fonts by ID and not name, as recommended by Apple. Hence the kind of problem you're seeing. -- Chuq Von Rospach <+> chuq@apple.com <+> [This is myself speaking] He hasn't an enemy in the world, and none of his friends like him. -- Wilde
