Grrrr!
Okay, Apple, do what the heck are ya tryin' to pull? You put out a machine
that has the power of 1 DECstation 3100 (info from Digital Review) or
2.5 MicroVAX's with DMA SCSI and I/O processors running at 40MHz and
the capability to run A/UX, MacOS, and X all at once and you still
persist in calling it just a personal computer?!!! Is this how you
justify your $9000 price tag?!!!
C'mon, Apple, yer lead in the market is closing quick!! Stop thinking
you can just charge whatever you like because you don't have any
direct competition (no clones I mean). Everyone else classifies your
machine as a workstation. It is compared to workstations. It is
judged in it performance in relation to other workstations. Just
because you don't want to call it one doesn't make it so.
Face it, Apple. The IIfx is a workstation. And a durn mediocre one at
that. The price reeks...as does all your pricing! Stop going for
the 400% profit margin! And stop teasing us with "price reductions"
of $150! On a $3500 Mac, $150 is nothing! If you want to look
serious and competative, try this:
IIfx, 4 MB RAM, 80 MB HD: $4999
IIx, 4 MB RAM, 80 MB HD: $4399
IIci, 4 MB RAM, 80 MB HD: $3299
IIcx, 4 MB RAM, 80 MB HD: $2799
SE/30, 2.5 MB RAM, 40 MB HD: $1999
SE, 1 MB RAM, 40 MB HD: $1299
Plus: 1 MB RAM, 20MB HD: $699
Portable: 2 MB RAM, 40 MB HD: $5199 (The screen costs! :) )
I don't see how you can justify your prices...maybe someone could
give a bean counter at Apple some time on the net to explain to the
world why they think Apple can charge these outrageous prices and
why a workstation isn't called a workstation.
This is an aggressive pricing scheme. The volume sold would recoup
yer losses that you might incur from the reduced profit margin.
IBM can't be doing everything wrong is they can sell PS/2's with similar
capabilites at rather reasonable prices! (and for all you Macists out there,
I wouldn't want an IBM, but they aren't as bad as they used to be...and
they can do some things that the Mac can do..and..lets face it...IBM
isn't leaving computers anytime soon!)
