My venerable Plus is acting peculiar; I wonder if those out there
can identify the symptoms as characterizing a particular hardware
or software problem.
Running: sys/f 6.03, installed from clean locked disks. Inits:
vaccine, gatekeeper aid, suitcase, pyro, soundmaster. External
60M Crate disk (seagate). 1M memory. Attached to Appleshare
network using Microsoft Mail but not using Appleshare per se
(there's nothing on the servers that I want or need).
Behavior: Frequently when booting at the beginning of the day,
it hangs after the welcome box, saying "can't load a needed resource"
Subsequent boots often work okay to the desktop stage. Frequently,
at this point it bombs id=2,10, or 28 when I pull down a menu, any
menu. Occasionally it works fine anyway, but bombs with the same
ids when I quit an application (like Word 4, since that's what I
mostly use). Disinfectant 1.6 reports no viruses (I haven't yet
obtained 1.7), Disk First Aid sez it's hunky-dory. I've tried
replacing system, finder, system and finder, all system files...
nothing seems to help. Any ideas? Please mail direct to me, I
doubt this needs to clutter up the board any more than it already
has....
