[comp.sys.mac] help needed

maithel@mist.cs.orst.edu (Neeraj Maithel) (11/09/87)

I am developing a database application on the macintosh. I want to incorporate
import and export file facilities with the existing dbase applications running
on mac. I would appreciate if anyone could help me find the format of these
files. I am especially interested in SYLK, DBASE III, ORACLE, WKS file formats.

Hello,
I'm in the process of trying to set up an archive mail server for the
mac software (including DTS shadow site) that we also make available
  via anonymous ftp.

Since none of the software that I've seen does this trick, I'm writing
my own. To ensure that it works, I'd like a few people who would be
willing to mail to this archive address, and possibly get a couple of
  "junk" letters in reponse.

If you're willing to do this, please respond to this message (I think
I've got the headers set correctly). All I need is something (like
a .signature) in the body of the message (subject lines are optional).

Then within a day of receiving the message, I'll send out a response to
the address that my end gets, which will hopefully be yours. This will
test the parts of the server which parse the address and reply to it.

  Thanks much.

After testing by a couple of people on site, I didn't get the headers
right. If you'd like to help test, please send a mail message to:

mac-archive@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu or {apple|rutgers}!umn-cs!mac-archive

with a signature of some sorts showing your "real" mail address, which
I can compare with what my automated header parser generates.

Thanks again

I need to find out if there is any way I can use ResEdit or any other
utility to either disable or get rid of the "Erase Disk" command under the
Special menu in the Finder. We are going to be adding a second hard drive
to our network at work, and I want to avoid any accidental reformatting of
our 80 megabyte hard drive. Can anyone help me?

I'm having some problems and would greatly appreciate some answers.
My configuration is a IIci, 5 megs, 6.05(downloaded fine for me), 65 meg CMS hard drive, lot of inits and CDevs.

1: In Switch-a-Roo, I can't get the Roo File to save my new settings. I set Switch A to 2 gray and switch B to 256 color and click on save, the hard drive light blinks on, but when I invoke the key, it changes the color to gray(but the bit the remains the same). ie. if I'm in 256 color, it changes to 256 gray, if in 2 color, it changes to 2 gray. I even went to the CS lab to get a 'good' roo file. I made one there that worked fine, but when I dumped it in my system folder, I got the same results. Note: it

did this with 6.04 also.

2: Solarian II boots fine, the menu comes up, but when you click to begin, the screen is truely screwed up to the point where you cant make out definate images(although it will still let you play)...needless to say, I haven't gotten past the first level on that one.

3: Is it just me or won't ZTerm 0.85 accept batch zmodem? I use it, and the first one transfers fine, but the rest don't.

4: NOIcon also doesn't do what it is supposed to, instead of not having the init icons appearing, it just moves some of them over and it places some of them on top of one another(although not all of them)

5: Where can I get the THINK C 4.01 updater? I tried at rascal.ics.utexas.edu, but it wouldn't let me get the file..

6: Does anyone know when they are going to set a standard on 9600+? I'm getting tired of slumming around at 2400, but don't want to waste money on a modem that might not be standardized in a couple of weeks.

7: ZTerm wont let me add/edit any of the numbers in the phone book. I click on setups..., it asks for a new name, I type it and nothing happens.

8: I knew there were more but I cant remember what they were...ack

anyways, if you have any answers, PLEASE send me mail!

				Thanx in advance
