Here is a great chance to unload those old Mac512's (or plusses, or even II's) for a nice tax writeoff, generate goodwill, and get some kids introduced to computing the way it SHOULD be from a tender early age. Chiaravalle Montessori school, in Evanston IL, is adding computers to their curriculum. The main initial uses will be in word processing, (supporting the writing program), and for all kinds of artwork, in support of fine arts to architecture. Later uses will include mathematics and data base access vi CD-ROM, and anything the kids' imagination comes up with (maybe even starting up their own Montessori BBS). The school is in need of all kinds of Mac equipment-- hard drives, printers, CPU's. I am donating my own time to get it running and networked properly. The stuff need not be cutting edge. With even an old Mac512, I can get a Dove board and bring it up to a 2meg plus for a couple hundred dollars' cost. My only connection with this school is that my daughter is a student there (though she wouldn't directly benefit from the donation, as the main computer users will be in the 6 yrs and up classes). I think the teachers have put together some really good ideas though, and deserve support. If anybody has suggestions or donations, please contact me by email. .
