Hello netters, We here at UMass use Alisashare to have file servers to store programs for the general public use. We are configured as such: Mac II (4 of them, with 5 megs each) System 6.0.4 Suitcase II(latest version) ColorFinder Latest version of Alisashare Our problem is that Alisashare appears to be slowing down all actions on our Macs. The volumes take forever to come up. When the volumes are up, it slows down everything else on the machine. If we access (for instance) a program on the internal hard disk of the machine we are working on, Alisashare insists on checking with the file server/network. What gives? I've checked for viruses but there are none. One of my thoughts was that the desktop on the file servers had been gradually building up a huge desktop file. This turned out to be false, because there doesn't appear to be a desktop file on the file servers (I checked it with resedit). In even further bizarreness, If I rebuild the desktop of the internal hard disk, the Mac tries to rebuild the desktop (which doesn't exist, apparaently) of the file server volumes. If I say "Ok" and let it try to rebuild the desktop of the volumes, it hangs. Anybody have any ideas what is going on here and whether this is a problem with Alisashare or with the new version of the System (6.0.x and on)? I've tried removing Suitcase II and Colorfinder but have noticed no significant speed increase. Any help greatly appreciated, Damian |----------------------------------------------------------------| |"Party For Your Right To Fight" | "Welcome to the Terrordome!"| | Damian Roskill | | | Roskill@cs.umass.edu | | |----------------------------------------------------------------|
