[comp.sys.mac] Finale 2.0 on script manager

ahn@mpx1.lampf.lanl.gov (Ahn, Hyo E.) (03/21/90)

Recently I bought Finale 2.0 to process music on my Mac.
I am using a foreign system (HangulTalk for Korean) to put words under the
music. One problem that I encountered was that the characters got changed into
weird ones (that you often get with option-keys on English system) right after
I push the return key and people in Coda don't know how to solve this problem
yet.

Is there anyone had a similar problem with script manager on some applications?
Any solution concerning this would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine had a similar trouble with combination of Finale 2.0 and
KanjiTalk, Japanese Script System, so I invented binary patches to Finale 2.0
to make it display and print Japanese characters sanely and it has been
working fine so far. The patches do not change Finale 100% ScriptManager
compatible, but make it recognize a double byte character if
the text font number is >= $4000 and it sees a byte >= $80 followed
by another byte. My understanding is that Japanese, Korean and Chinese
systems have these common characteristics so it should work for the others too.

Sorry that I cannot describe the patches here since I don't have the memo
at hand now. E-mail me if you want to get it. I will post it to the net
if more than a handful of people want the information.

BTW, western software developers should learn to pay attention to
Script Manager in IM-V and then your products sell worldwide.

This may be a stupid answer, but I sometimes have the same problem...

I use KanjiTalk and some applications turn my text into a mess that seems
useless. I tried copying the text and putting it into a word processor. I
selected the text and changed to a kanji font. The text returned to what I
had written. I put it back into the application and it became garbage again.
I belive that the software is calling a certain font and I can't find a font
menu in it. In that case, the company who designed it needs to update to
handle other fonts (at least system fonts). Let me know what happens...
