[comp.sys.mac] DeltaSound suggestion

isle@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Ken Hancock) (04/10/90)

I was using Delta Sound the other day for compressing sound files and
found one inherently evil "feature". DeltaSound changes a SoundCap
sound file to keep the differences from one byte to the next. The
advantage is that StuffIt compresses the files better. Unfortunately,
it does nothing more than that. A file whose type/creator was FSSD SFX!
is DeltaSounded and the resulting file is a FSSD SFX!, but it is unusable
as a sound until it is UnDeltaSounded.

If the file is being changed to something that is not a sound file anymore,
why not change the type and creator? I think it would be a big improvement
and make it a much more viable alternative.
