[comp.sys.mac] Apple offers a free CD-ROM

eaw@Alliant.COM (Eric Woudenberg) (03/12/90)

"Apple is offereing a free [compact] disc containing technical support
tools, the MiniFinder library of product reviews from MacUser
magazine, and product previews from Microsoft, Farallon, SuperMac and
Letraset. The disc is available by calling (800) 441-3001, ext. 100."

What's even more amazing is that I called at 11:15 PM EDT on Sunday and
someone answered and took my name and address!

And when I called, they said that they're getting tons of calls.
Lead time is 10-12 weeks.

I called the 800 number and asked. No, there is not a non-800 number,
and no, they can't send the CD outside of the USA.

I guess that it is a USA only promotion. Questions, etc. should
probably go to the CD-ROM product manager, Larry Kwan, at
kwan@applelink.apple.com.

Yeah, but did you get your CD yet? I ordered one, too, and I don't
remember if the lady on the other end of the phone told me when to
expect it.

I called the 800 number and asked them if they had a non-800 number as well for
international callers. They gave me this number:

(408) 974-2077

After calling this number, I discovered that this was Apple Customer Relations.
Since this is Saturday, there was no one there, but they are there M-F from
9-5 PST. The operator at the 800 number believed that they could help you.

The ads in the magazines say 4-6 weeks.

I just got a postcard saying "Thanks for ordering the Apple CD-ROM. It
will arrive in May." :-)

Mind you, I got one of those postcards about the HeloCar videotape and I
never did get the tape... :-(

No, but I got a card in the mail acknowledging that they received my
request, and that I'd get it sometime in May.

Right thing, right way. At least they know _how_ to do it, now we
have to work on _when_.
