[comp.sys.mac] question: setting a checkbox on as default

sumo@fornax.UUCP (sumo kindersley) (04/12/90)

with great pleasure i found and used instructions posted to this newsgroup
to generate postscript files from my macintosh application files. i now
have, via ResEdit, the Disk File check box visible in my printer dialog
window and even specified as its STR a folder in which to save such files.
so, many thanks to all who posted about that, and about the
laserprinter preprocessing program available by ftp.

my question is related: i don't even *have* a printer connected to my
mac (IIcx), i *always* transfer the files to my SPARC and print with
macps|lpr from there. i sometimes miss or forget to click the checkbox,
and have to wait until it decides it can't find a laserwriter.

CAN I MAKE THE Disk File CHECKBOX BE CHECKED ON BY DEFAULT???

we've been messin' about with ResEdit and can't find anything obvious.
DITL 8192 (page setup) has some checkboxes that are on by default,
e.g. Font Substitution?, but we couldn't figure out *why* they were.

i WILL post a summary if i'm answered by e-mail,
and i'd prefer answers by mail,
but by all means post if *you* prefer it,
that's how i found out about any of this at all...

thanks,
sumo

Using a document of your choice, 'Print' it with the checkbox OFF, and 'Print'
a copy with the checkbox ON. Using ResEdit, compare the PREC resources that
have been stored with the document. Near the bottom you will find that they
differ in exectly 1 (one) bit. Turn that bit on in the PREC(0) and PREC(1)
resources in the print driver.
