Every bit of my network`s "strange mac troubles" have been caused by the WDEF virus which is basically harmless, spreads like wildfire, causes all sorts of strange behavior (like a special>restart that only brings you back to the desktop, no restart at all) and is easy to get rid of. If you must have a virus, this is the one to have. Get rid of it by holding down the command-options keys during boot or when you insert a disk. This rebuilds the desktop which is where the virus resides. Symantec SAM Intercept does a good job of spotting the virus and preventing the spreading.

>The first thing I began noticing is that after exiting applications or >rebooting, all of the windows that were open disappear, leaving the >stock hard disk icon which has to be reopened. > > ... > >The latest versions of Disinfectant and Virus Rx report no viruses. One conjecture: >Every bit of my network`s "strange mac troubles" have been caused >by the WDEF virus which is basically harmless, spreads like wildfire, >causes all sorts of strange behavior (like a special>restart that only >brings you back to the desktop, no restart at all) and is easy to >get rid of. But the latest version of Disinfectant recognizes the WDEF, so this brand of gremlin is unlikely. -- Jason
