[comp.sys.mac] FDHD DRIVES

a849@mindlink.UUCP (Rodger Hort) (04/13/90)

I'm sure this topic may have been raised before in this forum, but I am new to
the group & would appreciate any help. My FDHD drive in my Mac 11cx sometimes
tells me that my attempts at initialization have failed. Yet I can take the
same disk, swing over to my DOS machine and format it perfectly! I've even
heard of a couple of cases where [people have been using a correctly formatted
disk, only to have the drive tell them it is an unreadable disk and do they
want to format it, etc. - thereby losing all of their data. In other words, the
disk becomes unreadable.
Questions:
          1) What causes this
          2) Any "fixes" out there

It is known that the SuperDrives are quite sensitive wrt HD disk. What brand
of disks are you using? I've heard that some people have solve their problems
by switching brands.
