We have written a C program which runs on 4.2BSD (and probably other UNIXs) which emulate a TU-58 on any serial line. This allows standalont micros such as LSI-11's and 11/23's to think they have a "mass storage" device to boot as run off of (you can boot RT-11 off this program). It is considerably faster than a real TU-58 since there is no access time (compared to the TU-58 average 30 sec). In addition, one should be able to put VAX 11/750 diagnostics, etc. and run them off another machine's serial lines. Well its a crazy idea, but the minimal mass storage service it provides is great for the bunch of LSI-11's we have doing standalone tasks. It beats burning PROMS all the time. This program is available on request. Cheers, Dan Ts'o Dept. Neurobiology Rockefeller Univ. 1230 York Ave. NY, NY 10021 212-570-7671 ...cmcl2!rna!dan
