Since I installed 6.0.5 on a couple of Mac IIs, Ive been having a lot of problems. (Not due to viruses - Ive checked). Some of the worst ones seem to be that somehow, the disk low level structures are getting corrupted. (For what its worth, Im using Desktop Manager and quite a few other inits). Each machine has two hard disks, and on each of them, its got to the stage where Disk First Aid has reported that it was unable to verify the status of one of the disks. In one case, the disk became unmountable, and I had to restore it from a backup. On the other machine, the SUM Shield Init now seems to just hang on shutdown. Ive also had a problem with Wingz crashing on its second launch - which Ive been told is a problem with the way Wingz manages its memory, and changes Apple made in 6.0.5. Anyhow - can anyone shed any light on these disk problems? - remember, its happening on 2 different machines, and I think its more than a coincidence. Thanks. Ralph

In response to a few bug reports and complaints, perhaps i can offer some insight or something cleverly helpful. Maybe not. I was one of those insane individuals who downloaded 6.0.5 in a frantic state of mind and installed it on the 30 Macs that i manage and my Plus at home all in pretty much the same day. Since then i have hardly any bombs (my girlfriend and i use this Plus about 5 to 8 hours per day) at home. In fact, i'd say this is the most dependable system release i have used yet. I'm using, aside from normal system documents: Gatekeeper and Aid, versions 1.1.1 & 1.0.1 respectively. Have been trying Moire 3.02 and Boomerang for the last few days. I also use Facade 1.0 and Suitcase II, version 1.2.6. Again, i've had hardly any crashes- this has got to be the most trouble free system i've seen yet. As for the system's i've installed at work, most are pretty plain, apple- share workstations, with the addition of Moire 3.02, and LaunchBreak (Thanks Dean and Dave, it's great!) But again, these have been relatively trouble free. I haven't had to reinstall the System software on any machine yet, since i upgraded to 6.0.5. I hope this helps some people: As you all probably noticed, i don't run too many INITs. This is mostly because i only have 2.5 MB of RAM here at home, but perhaps this is something to consider. (Not to worship or anything. I really wish i had more memory to run neat things like Sound Master etc., but i don't, so i cant'. :) johan (eggplant@walt.cc.utexas.edu)

(Apologies for not replying instead of posting -- NETNEWS is spazzing out on me, refuses to let me make replies).
