Here is a _very_ strange bug in the AppleLink application that had me really puzzled for a while: 1 Write a new memo and save it using the name "General". 2 Quit to the Finder or switch to it if you're using MultiFinder. 3 Now try to find the file "General". It's not there! You can imagine how baffled I was the first time it happened to me, just after finishing a lengthy letter. I was much too surprised to be angry. This problem occurs in both AppleLink version 4 and version 5. I don't have a copy of version 5.1, so I can't tell if it happens there as well. The problem is repeatable 100%. If a document named "General" already exists, you will be warned if you want to replace it; however, if you click Yes to replace it, the original file remains untouched. I especially enjoyed the "General's disappearing act" here in Chile. Some of you may remember that only two months ago, Chile's former dictatorial regime, headed by General Augusto Pinochet, was replaced by the democratically elected president Patricio Aylwin. Have you checked the General cdev for your Control Panel lately? This is a file in your System Folder. Sounds like a "Poor Man's Search Path" problem. [Disclaimer: This is pure speculation.
