Hi y'all,
I've just decided to write a thesis next year, and I think I'm going to
have to invest in a computer. Although I work on campus as a consultant for
WordPerfect on IBMs and AT&T 6300s, the facilities are much, much better for
Macintoshes (two LaserWriters are hooked up to a network of about twelve Mac
SEs, but the 25 IBMs print through an HP LaserJet that is dying a slow, painful
death). I want to get an SE with a 20MB hard drive and maybe an ImageWriter
II.
My problem? (Besides lack of money...<sigh>) I don't know whether to get
Word or WordPerfect. I'll be using the system almost entirely for word
processing (unless, of course, I get a copy of Tetris). My thesis will be
80-100 pages, with chapters, footnotes, a table of contents, and all the
other fun trappings of an academic document. I've used IBM WP 5.0 to type
really large documents, and I really like it. Does Mac WP have features
similar to Master Document, etc.? How 'bout Word? Which would you recommend?
Please reply by e-mail, as postings take a really long time to get here, and
anyway, they're threatening to shut off our newsfeed after we leave campus for
the summer. Argh.
Thanks very much.
Emily
