FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cambridge, Mass. - Digital Media Publications, Inc. has introduced its premiere
edition of the Macintosh Yellow Pages.
The Macintosh Yellow Pages is an electronic HyperCard-based directory of all
major Macintosh products. Included is a comprehensive listing of Macintosh
software, hardware, accessories, books, CD-ROM titles, and magazines.
An extensive indexing system enables the user to instantaneously look up any
product using a wide variety of synonyms. For less experienced users, the
friendly "Personal Librarian" feature helps the user narrow down product
categories, thereby guiding users step-by-step through the searching process.
In addition to a very intuitive user interface, a tutorial animated to Mozart's
Sonata is also built in. The animated tutorial alone is an entertaining treat.
As a future extension of the Macintosh Yellow Pages, a CD-ROM version will be
released as the heavyweight business edition. It will incorporate additional
product information and digitized color images useful to the busy executive.
The entire directory of the current floppy version is squeezed onto a single
800K disk. According to Laura Marmorstein, Product Manager:
The Macintosh Yellow Pages is condensed down to one 800K floppy so
that it need not even be installed on one's hard disk to run, saving
precious hard disk space.
The Macintosh Yellow Pages is available for $39.95 directly from the publisher.
A new edition will be released each quarter. Substantial discounts will be
offered to user groups, non-profit organizations and educational institutions.
The Macintosh Yellow Pages...let your mouse do the walking.

The *one* feature that needs immediate attention is the shower...it doesn't have one (it only has a tub). In order to turn the tub into a shower I'll need to do the necessary plumbing, add tile above what already exists, put in a ceiling fan/vent and cover up the window that sits right above the tub. Whereas a few months ago a form for a free copy of the Macintosh Yellow Pages was posted to the net, I had no qualms -- any commercial company who wants to give away its products or product support for free is fine by me. A recent posting by Laura Marmorstein (lmarmors@athena.mit.edu) offered a form for people to send in for 40% off the $40 commercial price of the Macintosh Yellow Pages. This seems to me blatant commercialism and has no place on the net. Product announcements, information, etc., are fine, but not the posting of order forms. I feel that steps over the bounds. Although the Macintosh Yellow Pages have some pleasant features (such as sound and graphics included in the presentation), and obviously considerable time went into the development, why would anyone want to fork out that kind of money for what it really is -- just advertisement for Mac products. I think $5.00 maximum sounds more appropriate for a good catalog. By the way, I was lead to believe that mailing in the original coupon would entitle me to a free copy. I haven't seen anything yet. Thanks for alleviating the feelings of neglect associated with
remoteness. You are not the only one who bothered to fill out
that form and send it - and get no reply.
Great idea, David, but what about reality, and response, and a free
copy?

Funny, I always thought it was "against policy" for folks to
advertise up here. Freebies are one thing, but to use this as
a forum to advertise commercial products is quite another.
[ I could be wrong, if so, let me know, I would love a free ]
[ place to advertise. ]
Regardless, I dont know that I would trust a company (or
individual) that advertizes a freebie, doesnt send it, then
posts a LONG notice for that same product (in quite a few
forums) for sale. Could just be a mix-up i suppose...
Hmmmmm...
These views are mine, who else would want them?

heard from them since. Originally I has asked for the free version last year and never got that either. So I figured they dropped that and decided to charge for it. I tried to find them from information but to no avail. Does anyone know what happened with them? Did anyone out there ever get their Mac yellow pages either free or by payment? yes, I know the old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". I keep hoping this is a legitimate company but I am really skeptical now. If anyone knows how to contact them, please let me know. Thanks very much.

But in the last issue of MacWorld they have a listing in one of MacWorld's sections that has little blurbs on new products, but, sorry, I can't remember the section. I wonder if MacWorld actually checks on what it prints. Probably not. There's an address in there somewhere, too, but it sounds like an MIT dorm address. Maybe it's just a bunch of kids trying to launch something with not too much experience in customer, or potential customer, satisfaction, or business ethics. -dan
