the latest used price for a cd rom player from a Los Angeles
dealer is          $200 for a used one, and the prices for
new ones are droppin

The thing that puts me off the technology the most is the fact that
the CD ROM technology is totally different from read-write optical
media. The latter would be great for backup/sending really big items
to people without a fast network link; the former is great for low-cost
mass production and the potential for playing music CDs on the same
machine.

What a pity no one could come up with a read/write mechanism that could
also read CD ROMs.
