The thing that puts me off the technology the most is the fact that the CD ROM technology is totally different from read-write optical media. The latter would be great for backup/sending really big items to people without a fast network link; the former is great for low-cost mass production and the potential for playing music CDs on the same machine. What a pity no one could come up with a read/write mechanism that could also read CD ROMs. Philip Machanick philip@pescadero.stanford.edu
