Hello Neters, I have recently discovered a problem with FDHD drive and disks which, judging from the number of posts related to this subject, by no means makes me unique. I wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences or has found a fix. Here is the problem: I have a Mac II cx running system 6.0.5 with FDHD and 100 Meg hard drive. I bought a boxes of HD disks from two manufacturers, both of high quality. I initialized all the disks with no problems. I used two of the disk to transport some work to another machine with a compatible drive; again with no problems. When I brought the disks home, I thought I would just re- initialize them since they contained data which I already have on my hard drive. During attempted reinitialization, both disks failed. To try and determine if anything happened to these two disks I tried to re- initialize an unused disk from the same box. It too failed. Now, being of a scientific orientation, I would love to continue this experiment but these disks are a little bit expensive. My question is, "what is going on here?" Are these disks limited to one initialization? If so, why isn't there some sort of warning or disclaimer on the box? Any info would be appreciated. By the way, the disk drive works fine in reading and writing both 800K and HD disks. Ross Thompson AT&T Bell Lab's Whippany, NJ
