[comp.sys.mac] MODEM/FAX-ette questions...

gerolima@Neon.Stanford.EDU (Mark Gerolimatos) (08/11/90)

Hey, kids, I'd like to turn my mac into a FAX maniac. For transmitting,
I figure a FAX send could be implemented as some bizarre imagewrite-like
printer in the chooser. Then you could FAX out things like MACPaintWordDraw...
you name it... without going to hardcopy! Oh, how boffo!
Of course, it would have to take care of the annoying FAX handshake
banter (how would you know your own baaud rate without a hayse-compatible???),
too...can't rely on a "FAX" modem...that's cheating.
Receiving could get gross...storing bit images. Yuck.

Another thing I'd like is a daemon running all day on my mac that serves
as a file browser hooked to the serial port, and xmit-receive (using Kermit,
I suppose), so that I don't have to bring floppies around, all the time.
Just dial in, and away we go.

I suppose I could write these, but don't feel like reading CC(I?)TT dox, nor
do I want to figure out how the image writer works.
Before I start getting into all this hassle, do something like these exist,
already? Where can I get 'em?

Pleeeze right to me directly, as I hate getting behind in readnews, and
don't use emacs, and so just browse whenever I find the time.
