I have recently encountered several problems using the Macintosh that have never occured before. If I describe the set-up and problems, maybe someone can help me. he first problem occurred when I tried to backup a master disk onto the Mac's hard drive (it was THINK C 4.0, disk 3). The finder told me that it could not properly read four of the files. I tried verifying those files with MacTools 7.2, and it gave a -36 error in block offset 2 for each file. When verifying the entire disk, it gave me another error (ram data checksum or something) near -105 for five blocks on the diskette. The disk shouldn't have any errors. It is a master, barely 3 months old, never unlocked even for a moment, and to my best knowledge, not places near any magnetic fields. The second problem occurred when I tried running a Hypercard stack. It asked for a password, but I had never given it any protection. Then, when entering the home stack, it asked for the Home stack's password, and since I couldn't reply correctly, it didn't enter Hypercard. The third problem appeared soon after that. Often, when I place a disk into the drive, after a few finder operations, it bombs. The bombs are often things like system error, but I have also seen coprocessor not found (or the like) error. In my opinion, none of these bugs are what they really are, but there must be some large or several bugs in the System or Finder. I have done all the above before with no problems! The system I was using before was a Macintosh Plus with external hard drive and external floppy, Imagewriter, and I think it was System 6.0.1 (or 6.0.2). Now, my friend's computer, which is the one I am now trying to use, is a Mac Classic, with the internal hard and floppy drives, Imagewriter, and System 6.0.7 (which he says is new). I think that it's the System 6.0.7 which is causing problems, but maybe I'm wrong. Has anyone else had these problems? Does anyone know what I can do? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Matthew Moss mmoss@libserv1.ic.sunysb.edu ( "Master" Programmer and Real Neat Guy ) "Fish-heads, fish-heads, roly-poly fish-heads......
