I tried an experiment last night, in responce to some news comments that you can use the pd/shareware prog. "multispool" on sumex to provide background printing with the HP DeskWriter. I downloaded the 2.1 drivers and multispool from sumex, installed, and "poof", it didn't work! I am running ATM (+ many other inits) and MultiFinder on a IIci w/o a cpu cache, and the DW hooked up using appletalk. The multispool prog. gets the document to print (i.e., it shows up in the spool queue) but the printer status line says "not present" or "not found" and it never prints. If I pull out multi-spool, the printer works (even seems a tad faster with the 2.1 drivers.) Am I hosed? is it ATM? (I did not remove ATM, as I have cut out most of my bitmapped fonts from the system) Is it appletalk? Space aliens? Anyone got this combo to work? reply via e-mail or post (gee, that's helpful) thanks, john schettino john@ctc.contel.com --> soon to be @gte.com
