[comp.sys.atari.st] return code and Pterm

apratt@atari.UUcp (Allan Pratt) (01/09/87)

The first thing I did when I came to Atari was to fix the compiler
tools and GEMSTART to preserve the Pterm return code rather than
always returning zero. When I did this, I announced it to the net,
but I don't know if you were here then. In any case, it involves a
patch to the three passes of the compiler, plus the linker, assembler,
and relmod, and a new GEMSTART so programs you compile will get the
fix, too.

Moreover, since seeing the wildcard expansion fix, I have incorporated
it into the library and GEMSTART, so the new GEMSTART is substantially
different from the old: it fixes the Pterm() problem, the wildcard
expansion problem, and allows you to choose a number of memory models.

All this new stuff can be found on the developer's SIG on compuserve,
and possibly on the developer's sig on the Atari BBS, after Neil
gets back from CES.

Unfortunately, pre-existing programs like AR68 can't be back-patched
to fix their wildcard-expansion problems. It is possible that we will
build a new AR68 and the rest of the tools with the patched library,
but don't count on it. All this stuff came from DRI and Alcyon, and
it's not really under our control: we have to ask them to do it, and
after that it's up to them.

Fortunately, we are protected from your class-action suit, because
we make no warranty as to the merchantability of our product or its
suitability for a particular purpose.
