[comp.sys.atari.st] MEGAMAX Crawcin

Can someone please explain why this function is affected by:
example:
printf("this is a string without a  \n");
c=Crawcin();
The above does not work.....

example:
printf("this is a string with \n");
c=Crawcin();
works .....
 I did not set any buf() to 0 or the BINARY flag....
