[comp.sys.atari.st] various problems/needs

jmg@cernvax.UUCP (01/24/87)

1. I can confirm that nite seems to have problems on monochrome, on
my 1040 it does not blank the screen, but it does lock the ST.
2. Someone confirmed having "short file" problems in decoding dash.
There was a suggestion to me that the line before the end was
removed: not so. I also have the same problem with disasmbl.
Could someone repost, or post them directly to me please.
3. Moshe Braner's autodisk does not work with my ramdisk (surprise,
surprise). His doc mentions ramdisk.prg, which I thought was a
generic name for any ramdisk program. Was it a particular one?
eternal? (never did get that going, but maybe it was my fault).
4. The British ST User magazine offers a modulator for about 50
pounds sterling, to either TV or composite video. Don't ask me
(yet) whether it works. If it does then I might have to pinch
   my son's C64 monitor!
5. I am using a 520ST with Ethernet interface and telnet software.
Great fun having multiple window sessions.
6. Those having problems dearcing some software might note that
net.sources (comp.sources.unix here) has the arc source.
I am having a few problems compiling it with Megamax, but hope
that it will work when I do. If it does, and solves the problems
   should I post it?

[plus some other stuff]

1. I can confirm that nite *does* work on a 520ST with a monochrome monitor.
There is no system lock-up, the screen bounces back to life quite nicely
when I press any key or move the mouse. I have not had a chance to test
out the killer half of nite yet, as I am trying to split my time between
distributing 7 some odd Meg of software from the net and skiing.

2. I have also had the same problems with dash and disasmbl. Of the three
different versions of uudecode that I use, none would give me a working
or un-arcable version. It could be that very little of the net got these
files in working order (since it would appear that very little of our
   respective net paths coincide).
