Well, thanks to Bruce Wampler we now have a disk #3 in the set of SnailMail disks, as follows (description by Rob DeMillo): Snail 3.00 - TVX diskette: This disk is dedicated to Dr. Bruce Wampler's TVX editor environment. The kit includes: TVX - editor based on the TeleVideo editor EMAX - editor based on the EMACS editor VIX - editor based on the vi editor. All three editors are based on a "common ground" program. The TVX diskette includes all three editors, *excellent* documentation for a PD program, a tutorial on the editors, reference "cards" for all three editors, source code for all three editors, a programmer's guide, and step-by-step instructions for porting any of the editors to another environment. (This will allow you to have the same editors running on your ST, your IBM PC, your VAX VMS, or whatever....) Some people have e-mailed requesting more detailed info on the contents of each disk (including version numbers), also some people have lost the list of addresses. At the risk of posting an annoyingly long message repeating already posted information, here's the story: -------- cut and save for future reference if you wish ----------------- SnailMail distribution of public domain Atari ST software Information current as of February 1987 Note: a lot of this software may also be available from your friendly neighborhood BBS or user group, it may be worth it to check first Each disk contains a "table-of-contents" file with descriptions, but these are a bit too long to post to the net, so here's a summary: --------- Current disks (as of late Feb 87): --------- Disk 1.1 contains: ARC version 5.12, file-compatible with IBM version plus full docs and ARCM (merge utility) and ARCX UniTerm 1.7a (now has Kermit and Xmodem CRC) plus KeyEdit, TekToGem, and latest docs (First Word format) FORMAT3 (custom formatter utility: standard, "fast", and 10-sector) MonST (memory-resident monitor program -- lets you edit contents of RAM, also disk sector editor etc) (still the old version of 3/86 -- there may be a newer version?) Eternal2 RAM disk (reset-proof, removable, size and drive identifier set from a .DAT file (can override and set manually at boot time) Uuencode/uudecode (new version of uudecode used is Jean-Pierre H. Dumas's -- VERY robust, handles glitched files quite nicely) *NO* Gem Kermit anymore (UniTerm got bigger and it's got Kermit now) Disk 2.0 contains: ARCX (ARC extractor utility) Moshe Braner utilities (w source code in Megamax C and assembler) AUTODISK, BARREL, FLEXCOPY, MORE 1.4, NITE, SCACHE, etc (latest versions as of early Feb 1987, from Moshe himself; AUTODISK "lose-a-day" problem (ought to be) fixed) Moshe Braner's version of MicroEmacs (w source code in Megamax C) (no version number. This is the most current version as of Feb. 87, but the dates in the source code files still say July 86, don't know if changes were made) PROFF (with C source code) (portable text formatter utility -- Ozan Yigit, Mar 84) Eternal2 RAM disk (again, since AUTODISK needs it) Disk 3.0 contains: Bruce Wampler's VIX/TVX/EMAX (VIX is a Unix "vi"-compatible editor) Most current versions as of Feb 87, from Bruce Wampler himself, don't know if any changes made from earlier versions. Includes source code and very complete docs (including tutorial, reference cards, and guide to porting to other environments). Future stuff (NOT definite yet!) Disk ?? MicroEmacs 3.8e (Dan Lawrence, hacked a bit by Jim Turner) (ready just as soon as Jim is finished with it) (probably no sources cause they're huge, anyone who wants sources will have to ask Jim for them separately)... + some other editors and stuff (STWRITER 1.70? STEDT? NEWWORD4? ask Jim) Disk ??? tons of little utilities: an Epson printer config program, a hex dump program, a DVORAK keyboard program, little test progs, etc. etc. (just as soon as I finish mixing and matching) Disk ???? Ported mainframe games: LARN, OGRE, STARTREK, ADVENTURE, SPACEWAR (a version that works on color monitors), MYLIFE (a Life program), probably STSPEECH thrown in as well (I've got everything except the latest version of SPACEWAR... Warren Long are you out there, I've never been able to e-mail you) Disks are single-sided (to accomodate all drives), with most of the contents in ARCed form to save space (except for ARC or ARCX itself). --------- How to get a SnailMail disk: --------- Send $3 (or $4 Canadian funds) to one of the addresses listed below. (Addresses valid as of Feb 87) This amount includes the cost of a disk and postage (in North America).
