[comp.sys.atari.st] Binary/Source postings

silvert@dalcs.UUCP (02/24/87)

Let's take a moment to consider the case of large and small postings.
For large posting where even the source or binary by itself may require
separate parts, they should be separated, and could even be in separate
groups. But a small utility with 1 or 2K of assembler source should be
posted as a package. I see no need to moderate the really small stuff
(like a lot of Braner's postings), and the rapid feedback that we get
with unmoderated postings is worthwhile.

I suggest that the moderated group handle all multipart postings and all
those over a certain size (say 10K), and that anything smaller stay as
is. As for source, can the moderators include the language specs in the
Subject line, so that we know whether it is a language that we can
compile?

There is one advantage to posting small files to a moderated group,
I test everything before I post it and I uuencode it using a Dumas's
uuencode (which I will post as soon as the group is created)
Therefore if you get a binary off of comp.*.atari.st, you can be
sure that you can uudecode it and that it works as advertised.

There will be a 'code' (which will be posted..) in the subject line
of each posting defining the filetype (source, binary, text) the
compiler used (if avail), and systems that it runs on (st520, st1040,
monochrome, color or both) etc. for each file.
