I just bought version 1.10 of MT Cshell from Beckmeyer Development, despite warnings on the net. It is not too bad. It crashed 4 times last night. Once in uemacs, twice in larn and once in uniterm. The problem with larn and emacs seemed to be that the screen updating couldn't be done fast enough (the system seems to handle ALL input and output). In any case, once I started to go slower, I had no more problems. The manual is so so, it is mostly the C-Shell manual with a few added pages. Most of the new stuff was included in addendums. Also, the manual includes alot of programs (ie Make) that are not included with the system as sort of a sales pitch. Also, the manual seems to take itself a little too seriously. You can only have one other user on the system at a time, however it refers to USER many times. The previous user was right, this thing is a memory hog. I will have to buy the 2.5 meg upgrade to do anything serious. I was able to edit in the forground and complie in the background, but I was not able to make in the background (insufficient memory). I also was not able to run hack at all in the multiuser mode. Sitll, I think I will like this. I would not recommend it without a hard disk and more then a meg of memory though. Some features like escape completion and ~ expansion really add a good feel to the system. -- Phil Paone paone@topaz.rutgers.edu "Admiral...There be whales here"
