Recently I purchased an Atari 1040 with Thomson colour monitor, with which to my surprise, I can't obtain high resolution monochrome display. After talking to one of my collegues we came to the conclusion that is should be possible to make a (switchable) modification to the Thomson, so that the Atari can be fooled to think the Thomson is a monochrome display, thus giving high resolution output. Is the anyone that can answer the following questions?: Has anyone ever tried this before? Will it work? Will we get problem with the different bandwiths (12 ans 20 MHz)? Can the bandwith for monochrome output (20 MHz) be reduced to 12 MHz inside the Thomson? Answers please to Herman F. Vogt Earn/Bitnet: VOGT@HGRRUG5 Thanks in advance HFV

You have two problems to address. The first which you have obviously thought of is the increased bandwidth required for the monochrome display. Second, the monochrome display has a 70Hz scan rate. This is different than it is for the color display (either 50 or 60Hz, I can't remember). If you can adjust the scan rate of the Thomson monitor, then you should be able accomplish your goal.
