[comp.sys.atari.st] atari 4 meg memory upgrades

lharris@gpu.utcs.toronto.edu (04/05/87)

Hi.
This is in response to all the mail I received regarding a
posting about a 2.5/4 megabyte upgrade for the Atari ST computers.

The board uses 1 megabyte drams, is socketed for 4 megabytes and connects
to the atari through a small board that plugs into the video shifter
chip and the MMU chip. The board has 1uf monolithic capacitors all over
to keep things nice and quiet.

Installation took about 10 minutes (3 to get covers off, 2 to plug
the upgrade in, 2 to check it over, 3 to put covers back on.)

I had a 4 meg version on loan but I purchased a 2 meg version (gives
a total of 2.5 megabytes)

Programs Tested:
Publishing Partner, 1st word, Degas elite, XTRON, VIP, a number of
ram disks, and lots of desk accessories. All work and can take advantage
of the extra memory (1 meg ram disk and still have over 1 meg of ram free -
its insane!!)

The company is Datafree Industries
	391 Ormont Drive
	Weston Ontario
Canada, M9L 1N8 (thats Steeles and Weston road for people in TO)
Telephone: 416-741-9834
the person to speak to is Eric.
The price is: $199 Canadian for a fully socketed board with no memory
               (thats about $145 US)
$33 Canadian for 2 megs of ram chips (subject to market prices)
BTW - the documentation is really good - looks like it was typeset and is
really easy to follow.
