Several days after recovering after my crash whith GEMBOOT installed, I discovered trashed sectors that I don't think GEMBOOT had anything to do with. In fact, I'm fairly convinced that my crash had nothing to do with GEMBOOT at all, but was rather GEMBOOT _reacting_ to bogus stuff on my disk that I was not aware of at the time (things looked OK from the desktop, but that is far too casual a way of inspecting the integrity of a disk!). This garbage was probably lying around, backed up on my Meg-a-minute dackup disks) from the "old days", before GEMBOOT came along. So, I've cleaned up my disk (zeroed the directories and started over), reinstalled GEMBOOT and am doing my civic duty of testing it some more. So far things are OK, but one night does not a test make. MORAL: 1. Make sure your disk is squeeky clean before you start using GEMBOOT or your wasting your time. 2. Make sure your disk is squeeky clean before you back it up. 3. Periodically check the disk to make sure its still squeeky clean. As far as Supra's comment about GEMBOOT being "bad", who knows. Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong. Can't trust anybody in this business anymore. The only sure bet is to keep pounding on this stuff, reporting the results and rebuilding trashed disks. Sorry for accusing GEMBOOT but trashed disks have a way of making people irrational. But then again, the story isn't finished, either....
