Hi Everyone! 1) Back in my days of using a TRS80 (model III), I remember reading about TRSDOS disk format. The TRS80 had it's directory located on track 18, with FATS etc (actually GAT in TRSDOS) located next to it. The stated reason for this, and it makes sense to me, was that it put the directory in the middle of the disk, thus on average decreasing head access time by limiting the average "racking" distance. My question is this: Since the ST does not buffer tracks, the same scheme would make sense on it too. Would it be possible to implement the same scheme, at least for the root directory? How much of a savings would it dictate? 2) This one is for Neil. *** FLAME ON *** Since I have been using USENET for my ST (1 year?) ATARI has said it was looking into many patches/fixes/enhancements: 1. GDOS 2. 40 folder patch 3. HD boot patch. 4. MZDOZ emulator. etc. So far, ATARI is batting 000! I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE OF THESE ITEMS APPEAR! In fact, I have YET TO SEE ANY Atari endorsed software come across the NET. Frankly I am tee'd off. If Atari doesn't want to support its systems, that is their business, and the ST will simply be the last computer I buy from them. HOWEVER! if one promises software, DELIVER!!! I am sick and tired of saying to collegues "Oh, really, it's a good computer! Just wait till the fixes come out!!". This kind of bu**sh*t reaks of false advertising and throwing bones to the dogs!!! *** FLAME OFF *** Pete Santangeli pete@utcsscb@utcs NOTE: my apologies to any one who has written to me and not yet received a reply. The U of T has been unkind enough as to stick me with a multitude of Exams and Term Papers to do. I plan to return to Net activity at EOT (end of term!)
