[comp.sys.atari.st] GEMBOOT and SUPRA hard disks.

Some people have reported problems with GEMBOOT on Supra Hard Disks.

This is my experience, and I think it clears it all.

Problems is, in speaking to Mark White at Supra, that versions 1.4 to
2.XX have their own 40 folder fix built in. They extend the 40 folder
limit to 95 logical folders.

1) I backed up the hard disk.
2) Installed GEMBOOT as the LAST file in the folder.
3) Re-booted. System crashed, and drive C was trashed.
4) I restored partition C, and tried this approach:
   A. DISABLES auto booting.
   B. DELETED "auto" folder.
   C. ENABLED auto booting.
   D. CREATED "auto" folder.
   E. Placed my AUTO folder programs in, giving each a one minute time lapse
to guarratee that each program had its own unique date stamp. Finally,
placed GEMBOOT.PRG as the last program in the hard.
   F. Now things look the same as the first time, but SOMETHING is different,
I dunno what. Mark had some ideas, but he wanted to look at GEMBOOT
first. Anyways, I re-booted. And it worked PERFECT!!!
   G. GEMBOOT ignores the Supra fix, by-passes it, and places its own. End
result is great, ONLY, Mark White at supra mentioned that instead of
allowing to create 40 folders at a time, you still have the Supra
limit of 95. Giving you a limit of 300, with the ability to create
95 at any one time. BUT, this is NOT verified. Mark will be testing
gemboot during the next couple of weeks to see what he finds out.
5) So, GEMBOOT.PRG can work with the Supra drive, just requires you to
remove the auto booting, and auto folder, and RE create them. Beats e
   me why.

Feel free to pass this information around.

GEMBOOT *must* be the last program on your AUTO folder, or it will read
the C:\ directory in really weird fashions, and probably crash it too!
