[comp.sys.atari.st] No ROM upgrade to fix 40 folder bug ???

XCG112@DBNUAMA1.BITNET.UUCP (04/23/87)

... I was at an ATARI promotional show yesterday. It was held in the showroom
of one of the bigger ATARI dealers in Bonn.

There was a representative of ATARI Germany demonstrating the new Mega series,
and I asked innocently about a remedy for the 40 folders bug and/or a new ROM
release. (BTW: the ROMs he had in his Mega ST were dated 27-Feb-87, if I
remember correctly.)

This is what he answered, and I'll try to quote him literally:

" ... there will NOT BE A ROM UPGRADE that fixes the 40 folder problem.
Instead, there will be an external program that increases the folder
limit to about 900. This program will be made available via <the German
ATARI> BBS and our dealers. "

Anyone@Atari for comments ???????????????

Neil, Allan, atari.net.people et.al.:

Let's get the story straight. Now. I am one of many young, nearly
broke college students that appreciate having 8Mhz of 68000 sitting on my
dorm room desk and don't mind trying to hawk it to my roommates, friends,
casual aquaintences, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like the Amiga and the Mac.
The Amiga's video literally kicks the living crap out of the Atari and the Mac
kicks the crap out of them both for end-user completeness.

However, neither can touch Atari for price/performance or average
software price. _Period._ Anywhere in the world, for that matter. Witness
Atari as one of the or perhaps the largest computer sellers in W. Germany.
However, this is the U.S. and all I am saying is:

"Atari: fix the bloody bugs, release the ROMs, release the blitter,
make my machine better. It's not like I am asking for the
stuff free -- I'll pay -- but do it now, or you will lose. My
friends, roommates and casual aquaintences will no longer want
to buy the computer that I have."

other.net.people

I am not here to fight about which machine is better (none of them
are!) and I don't care how many bits that your Amigtarintosh can move in
a nanosecond. I want the computer that I bought to be better than it was
when I bought it and am willing to pay for the privilege.

'Nuff said. Atari, get your rear in gear and everyone else quit
bellyaching.
