Some comments about the stuff I download from comp.binaries: GEMBOOT: - work well after that I rebuilt my crashed Hard disk. I have now about 90 folders and no problems for the moment. HDBOOT: - Fantastic. It's very nice not having to put a floppy to boot. A small suggestion for the installation: *) I didn't understand the 2nd line of the Installation procedure ("Select the root directory (\) of your boot partition.") . I had to read the doc several times to really understand the sense of this sentence. *) The doc could precise that you have to shut down the system and do a "very cold RESET" (very cold means Turn off both the ST and the HD). I had to do this to make HDBOOT work well. UW: - Work well now. I sucessfully compile the host part on both a SUN 3/160 (4.2) , a GOULD, and on a VAX 785 (4.2). The small problem (on the VAX), I had was due to the way I connect on this host. AIM: - No problem to get it work, except for the "bnoise" file which seems to be corrupted. Really Impressive soft! HDSCAN: - Some times ago, i saw the announcement for a new release( 1.22) of this software. I 'm waiting for it, vue to the new capbilities of the program. Also, I would like to thank Todd, for the consideration he takes about our remarks. PROFILER: - No problem to make it run, but I don't really try it. DVIST: - Very nice product. But I would ask if some one try to use the server function. There is no information on how getting started with this feature. I'll be pleased if one could help. Thanks in advance! UUSLAVE: - I had no problem to decode and de-arc it, but some to use it. I include a line in the L.sys of the host system, but there's seems to be some problem of coordination (synchronisation) when the 2 systems want to talk together. I'm interroging myself for the use of this program. While UUSLAVE is running, I can't do anything else, except if I run it in background with MT-C-SHELL (not tested). Not very useful. Well, I think it's all for the moment. I would like to say that the quality of all those stuff is very impressive, and would like to thank everybodys, for their work. ============================================================================= Didier POIROT D.
