Hi,
I just came from the SICOB, which is a sort of CES, in France (Paris).
I got a paper on a product called "IDRIS" which seems to be an UNIX-like
Operating System. Let me describe these product.
Idris is a mature UNIX-like operating system that is compatible with 1984
/usr/group Standard for UNIX-like systems. It has a rich set of utilities for
file and text manipulation.
IDRIS provide a large array of Inter Process Communication(IPC) facilities,
such as SHARED MEMORY, LOCKS and MESSAGES. IDRIS is a powerful multi-user,
multi-tasking system. It is also very fast and compact.
In a nutshell and an "Atari ST with IDRIS Operating System constitue the
lowest priced UNIX based graphic workstation available".
IDRIS Disk Based Executive With Utilities:
Include: Multi-User, Multi-Tasking Executive;IPC facilities; Device Drivers
for Disk Drives (Atari and Supra); Device drivers for Printer,
Modem and MIDI Ports.
C and Pascal Compilers With Development Utilities:
Includes: Whitesmiths C and Pascal Compilers;C and Pascal Functions Libraries
Archive and Librarian Utilities; Debugger.
Ctext and Document Preparation Utilities
Includes: Ctext (Text formatter or Typesetter);Output Device Filters;User

The suggested price was about 8000 ff (~1400 $). I don't test this product
by myself but a friend played some times with the debugger and enjoyed it.
My article don't tell anything about the authors and the distributors of
this product in the US. It only give the distributor , here, in France.
PS: During this fest, I saw the new MEGA ST and the laser. A person from
ATARI france told me about a price for both the 2 meg + the laser: 20 000ff.
But don't know about the real validity of this info.

Idris is available from Computer Tools International, which is in Washington
State. Sorry, I don't have their address handy. It's retail price in the
US is $800.
