This may be true of usenet, but please remember, you are gatewayed to ARPAnet, which is tax-supported and rather Puritannical about what is appropriate to allow on the net. If you persist in sending commercial messages through the gateway, the ARPAnet side could well end up being disconnected as a result. We would all lose thereby. Maybe usenet users could get their commercial messages posted on some other net that is NOT gatewayed to ARPAnet? Or how about this: Agree on a keyword that MUST go on commercial messages, e.g. the string ADVERTISEMENT in all caps, and somebody could perhaps make the gateway filter out all such messages? -John Sangster, jhs@mitre-bedford.arpa
