Allan, there is a (not so) subtle difference, between me patching a program
for my own private use so that it doesn't get in the way of all the
wonderful programs that are going to be using _shell_p and distributing
a program which uses a unused location (BTW I just checked the code for
absolute long references to the_env to see if it was worth the trouble
to patch the program in the first place, I'm fully aware that there could
be indirect references to the_env).
As for using Alycon C: Atari Switzerland stoped selling the dev-pac over a
year ago (there are rumours that they have decided to start selling it again,
but I haven't had time to check that), none of the two persons I know who got
the dev-pac have ever got any updates (calling CompuServe from Switzerland
is clearly out of the question). Anyway the only reason we (the University)
wanted to buy the dev-pac was for the documentation (particulary for the
Kermit documentation which we can get free from CUVMA :-)) (BTW I have a
slight aversion against C, but don't start a fight over this).

PS: I have tried to send mail to Atari directly, but I never got any
answer........ (one day we'll have a UUCP connection......)
