[comp.sys.atari.st] Bad and Good disks

corsaro%v5130b.DECnet@NRL-ACOUSTICS.ARPA.UUCP (05/26/87)

Regarding disks, this table summarizes my (and some co-workers)
experiance over the past two years, as best I recollect:

type number	Format errors	data dropout
			used	(SS/DS) (within 6 mo.)
	------------------------------------------------------
	Precision (DS)	50	10/- (20%)	5 (10%)
	3M (SS) 100	10/- (10%)	8 (8%)
	Sony (SS)	200	2/0 ( 1%)	0
	Sony (DS)	30	-/0 0
	Verbatim (DS)	50	-/0 0
	TDK (DS)	20	-/0 0

Note that the first three listed were purchased under bulk
Govt. contract, while the others were commercial. Incidently, this
data does not include (but is consistant with) data previously
reported by Bob Menton. (We get our disks from the same source).

Disclamer: this is a small data set since all disks from the
same manufactorer probably came from the same production batch, and
may therefore not be fully representive.
