IHLS400@INDYCMS.BITNET.UUCP (05/27/87)
I just received my new issue of STart today and decided to try
installing CLI.ACC, OPERATOR.ACC and PAGEFLIP.ACC. After using
ARCX.TTP on the ARC files, I put the ACC and associated RSC files
on my hard drive and tried to reboot. Result: 2 bombs and the drive
continually tries to reboot. I tried unplugging the hard drive and
booting off A: successfully. I then installed the C: drive and
renamed the ACC files to AC and tried rebooting off the hard drive.
No good. Same result of two bombs and the drive continually tried
to reboot. I unplugged the hard drive again and followed the same
steps to boot off of A:, but now the hard drive shows only one file
on it, AHDI.PRG. When I open the C: drive, it does indeed appear to
be reading off the drive. I have a feeling my hard drive is trashed,
but hopefully someone can give me a suggestion. More than that, I
wanted to warn people out there lest the same thing happen to them.
Although I don't guarantee that I did everything properly, I hope
no one else has the same problems if I did indeed install everything
right.
I am now open for suggestions (as always it seems) about how to salvage
the hard drive if possible without re-formatting. I do not have a
current backup, although there isn't anything of great importance that
I do not have a copy of on another disk with the possible exception of
some intermediate edits of text and program files.
Thank you for any help you may have for me. I hope none of you have
the same problems and it's just my own stupidity.
P.S. Please include your entire return path when writing as we tend
to have a lot of trouble finding our way back, especially to
UUCP. Thank you again.
