1) Are there any commercial or PD utilities that can be used to 'crunch'
files on a hard disk to get rid of the fragmentation?
2) Has anyone tried extending the cable going from the DMA port on
the ST to the hard disk? I've heard that the drivers on the DMA
chip are not good enough to support cables more than 2 feet or so
in length, but has anyone tried buffering the lines from the port
externally? I _do_ realise that it's a bidirectional bus, but I
think all necessary signals are available to buffer in the required
direction. I'm specifically interested in hard drives made with
the BMS board, but this is probably applicable to all ST hard disks.
