[comp.sys.atari.st] How do I connect a 5.25 " floppy dr

ftw@datacube.UUCP (06/12/87)

I have tried hooking a Tandon TM-100 to my ST with some success, although
I haven't played with it much lately. Here's a brief synopsis of what I did:

1.	Trash the 300 ohm terminator and replace it with a 1K ohm part.
The 300 ohm pull up is too much for the low current driver in
the ST. Also look out for soldered-in 300 ohm resistors on the
drive logic; take your handy VOM or DVM and check between the +5v
pin on the power connector and the even pins on the edge connector
	on the drive.

2.	Make sure you have the drive jumpered as a drive 0. The ST
daisy-chains the select lines so every drive in line needs to
	be "drive 0".

This was 90% of my troubles. The other 10% were evenly divided between not
having a proper format utility, and not having the correct info to slow
the seek rate. I got around the former problem by formatting on a handy
PC/AT, and the latter by ignoring it (for the purposes of experimenting;
I don't run the Tandon much at all). Both missing pieces are in the
public domain, to the best of my knowledge. There are PD format utilities,
and not too long ago I saw someone discussing the correct memory locations
to change to slow down the seek rate.

Hope all this helps. Good luck!

I'd like that information too.
Thanks.
