[comp.sys.atari.st] Help wanted: NL-10 Printer loses characters at End-of-Page

maden@rzsin.sin.chunet (David Maden) (05/25/87)

I have a Star NL-10 printer connected to my 1040STf via the printer port. The
plug-in unit on the Star-10 is a so-called Parallel Interface-Steckmodul. My
problem is that, when I manually feed in single sheets of paper to the printer
to get a print-out of a file from the desk-top (i.e. double-click the file and
then select the "print file" option), I lose characters (the number that get
lost appears random but is usually about 16) when changing sheets of paper.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?

To fill in the picture a little, I have tried several DIP-switch settings and
printer port settings to no avail. The following are what I believe should be
the correct ones (with my translations of items from the Star-10 interface
module manual and the German desk-top of the Atari - perhaps this is a problem
peculiar to the German ROMs!). The NL-10 DIP switches are set as follows:

   1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
   F N N N F N N N N = oN, F = ofF
             \ /
   | | | | | +----- USA character set
   | | | | +--------- 12 inch paper (selecting 11 inch makes no difference)
   | | | +----------- No bottom margin (other position tried too)
   | | +------------- Computer must send <LF>
   | +--------------- Paper-end sensor enabled
   +----------------- User definable characters enabled

The printer set-up menu on the desk-top is as follows:

   Printer type - Matrix
   B/W or colour - Black/white
   Dots per line - 960
   Print quality - Draft
   Printer or Modem - Printer
   Paper type - Single sheet

As a final note, 1st Word seems to handle the printer all right. Listings
from ST-Basic (not that I use the language, I just wanted to try out
software which I assume is 100% Atari supported), however, lose characters in
the same way as the Desktop.

I sent this request for help to the net a couple of weeks ago but then there
was a hiccup in our receipt of network messages so it's possible I never
saw the crucial reply. Please excuse the repetition ...
