[comp.sys.atari.st] Aerco RAM board experience and questions - an update!

  I have learned more about the problems I have been having with my Aerco
board.  The voltage at the RAM chips was 4.95 volts, which is reasonable;
the threshold I've heard about is a couple of hundred millivolts lower.  I
looked for an inductor to the right of the motherboard RAM, and just do not
have one (so much for that problem).  That inductor was supposed to eat
about 400 mV for some people.  The only thing left after making sure for the
fourth time that the chips are well seated is some information I got from
Aerco - my MMU chip is of a very old vintage.  The part gas a number ending
in -20, while the current revision is -38.  (November 1985 isn't that long
ago, is it?)  The fellow I talked to said that I was lucky to get it working
at all with one of those, because of the problems they have had with them.
Unfortunately, that chip is a bit too costly to just "buy and try" at $69
CDN.  Does anybody have any harder info about the problems with the old MMU,
or know of any good alternative sources?

  Alternatively, does Atari still have the "send in your tired, broken STs"
swap offer?  $95 US for a newest revision motherboard is not a bad deal if I
get the RF modulator, too, so does anyone know about this?

I have a system with an Aerco board configured with 4 megabytes; the system
has been extremely solid (though note that it's run off a XT clone power supply,
and not off the Atari brick).

This is a ST that dates from the initial introduction in the US (July 85).
