[comp.sys.atari.st] Seeking info on high-quality audio sampler

didier@lasso.UUCP.UUCP (08/04/87)

A demonstration model of a high-quality audio sampler box just made it
accross the Atlantic to the Parisian SICOB computer show, and my musician
friends are going nuts about it ever since they saw it. Being the hacker of the
gang, I was asked to investigate the insides of the thing. Great. The problem
is the guy who was presenting the stuff didn't know much about it, so I
was wondering if anybody back in the US knew a bit more about it. The thing
is the:
ADAP SOUND RACK1, costs 20.000 Francs with software ($3.000)

and is supposed to be an A/D + D/A converter with 16 bits resolution and
44.1 Khz sample rate. It uses a 1040 for all the user interface functions,
including an oscilloscope, FFT, cut and paste on digitized audio,....
And of course the thing can be driven by the MIDI port once the samples are
in the 1040.

Anybody know anything more ? (is it a true 16 bits, or yet-another-12-bitter,
does it have a floating-point-unit to speed up computing of FFT's, any other
fancy hardware, ??)

Most of all, I would like to know whether whoever makes this box also provides
documentation on the interface to the ST, so that us crazies can write our
own software...

Please reply directly to me.

P.S. At the SICOB show, Atari France announced the new, reduced prices for the
ST line. The 1040 now sells for 7,000 Francs, monochrome monitor included.
That's 30% below the previous price. Wow !
