I know Dave's been working his tail off on it all summer and that it is _in production_ now; it ought to be available soon. It is a box that attaches to the midi port and between the ST and a normal ST disk drive, and the Magic Sac switches it on as needed. >Any thoughts >on what the cost for a complete Magic Sac system (Magic Sac Plus, ROMS, and >drive hardware) will be? May be $150 to $200 ??? -ravi

Summary:A box to transform ST disk drive In the last newsletter from Data Pacific, it did not give any price for the Mac Disk drive transformer. It did say that it was a box that would attach to the ST and disk drive and it would automatically switch back and forth between ST and Mac "modes". It would also work with the internal drive on the 1040ST. Sounds really neat... As for pricing, I got my Mac for $135 including ROMs... Whoops, I mean Magic Sac +. There is no release date (yet) for the disk drive transformer, hence, no vaporware. However, they have said that it is almost done... As a side note, I got some PD printer drivers for the Epson MX, FX, and QX for the Mac. I use the FX printer driver with my Panasonic KX-P1091 printer and it works great! If anyone would like them, I will either send it to them directly, or, if there is sufficient interest, I will post them. Maurice BITNET: mcli_ss@uordbv, mcliss@uorvm UUCP : ...rochester!ur-tut!mcli

Last time I talked to David Small he said it would be a hardware box giving the _standard_ SF314 the possibilities to read and write Mac disks. No price-information was available at that time. BTW: Could some1 plz pass me the address and/or tel# of Data Pacific? Thank you... Paul

I just bought pc-DITTO this weekend and spent a little time playing with it on WordPerfect. On the whole it works really well, but does have a few quirks. It comes with two PD programs, SPEEDY3.EXE and QWICKEYS.COM which speed up the screen display and keyboard reaction times. These two help significantly, but has anyone seen any other similar programs that are designe for DOS 3.0 and up (as opposed to these which appear to be for DOS 2.1)? It's a little tricky getting all of your colors set correctly because you can never be sure of how the program will use what it thinks are the 16 colors available. Luckily this just takes some experimentation in the setup program. The only problems I had in WordPerfect were that when the line wrapped down, it did so slowly and occasionally lost some of a word that I was pretty sure that I had typed. Also, I couldn't get it to print, although that might have been a problem with the way in which I had set up WordPerfect an not a problem with how pc-DITTO was handling MS-DOS. Everything considered, I like it! Now that I have the IBM emulator for the ST, I'd like to start thinking about getting the Magic Sac as well. The only problem is that I need to transfer my Mac work to actual Macs and can't mess around with null modem cables all the time. Has anyone heard any juicy, but bordering on reality, rumors about the hardware that Data Pacific was working on to allow the ST to read and write Mac disks? Will it be a second drive, or will it be some kind of hardware box that interfaces with current ST drives? Any thoughts on what the cost for a complete Magic Sac system (Magic Sac Plus, ROMS, and drive hardware) will be? All information extremely welcome, though it would be nice if people posted it so everyone could read the news! Adam Engst engst@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu
