[comp.sys.atari.st] DeARCing files

jlendino@dasys1.UUCP (Jamie Lendino) (08/07/87)

I have a question to ask. Is there any way I can deARC a file from a RAM
disk into the drive, or from the drive into the RAM disk? Many files
are way too big for my puny little SF 354, and getting my 300K RAM disk
put into operation seems to be the only alternative. I know this is a simple
minded question when compared to the complicated and knowledgeable minds of
the ST users I'm writing to, but I really need the answer. Thank you for
your time, whoever reads and replies to this message.

Of course you can! At the box where you type eh....just type:

eh A:filename.arc D:

which deARCs from drive to RAM, or the deARC from RAM to drive, use:

eh D:filename.arc A:

Well, Here's one I can answer. :-)
Put your arc program on the destination drive and pass the usual arguements
(including the source drive of the arc'ed file) to it.
For example: To deARC a file from ramdisk C: to drive A:
   arc xh C:\myfile.arc
(Remember, the ARC program is on drive A:)
Simple.

In the RAM disk, you should have, A.the ARCed file, B. Dcopy. Run Dcopy
and "X"tract files, enter the ARC name, and when Asked for the destination
Enter Drive A as the Destination. Makes sense huh?? If you can't fit
Dcopy into the RAM disk just simply change the Source path to D:.
ex. Source: D:\DALEKS.ARC
     Destination: A

P.S. once Dcopy has loaded up you may erase, it from the menu, because it
no longer needs to access the disk. That is if you need that extra bit of disk
space. Also, get DC Formatter, or something.
