FLAME ON -----------argggghhhhh!!!!----------- Boy am I upset. I just got my computer (a 520ST) repaired at the Floppy Wizard here in Houston, and it cost me $150. What was the problem? Broken traces around the ROM sockets, and a bad DMA chip. The funny thing is that this machine was bought for our company, and has only been used about 2 or 3 times in the six months we owned it. The really bad thing about the whole situation is that I told them that I could send it to Atari to be exchanged for about $90 no questions asked. They said they would repair it for less, so I said OK. Little did I know that the repair person would have such a difficult time locating the problem and charge me for his inability to fix it in a timely manner. So anyway, I told him that I could have sent it to Atari for cheaper and he laughed in my face saying "I just got the new price list and it doesn't say that. No way could you get it replaced that cheaply." So my question is: Am I the fool, or does Atari really offer this swap out for the latest rev? Also, as a warning to anyone who may desire getting their computer repaired. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can trust someone just because you have known them for a while (I've known the repairman for three years, but at a different store - not the Floppy Wizard (yuch!!)) Any how, make sure that you will get repairs for a certain price, because frankly I would have rather sent my machine to Atari and received a brand new computer, than having an old 520 (which didn't even have a modulator - apparently Federated sold us old stock) and have someone charge me $150 for repairing traces that took two days to discover. I hate paying for someone else's learning experiences. But anyway, does Atari offer this $90 trade in policy. I know it is too late now, but at least I can have my moment of glory and let them know of this. Maybe I will have enuf money to get it out of hock in about a month. Gee, why didn't you get your ST at an Authorized Atari Dealer?? I get all my hardware at (so claimed by their store, and the local newspaper) the #1 Atari Dealer of the U.S., San Jose Computer, I wouldn't be surprised if they were at or near the top, because they have been the ONLY atari dealer around(only besides toys stores when Warners was in control) for nearly 10 years now for almost 10 years now!!!! I have a good ol' 1040ST that lasted me over a year of VERY VIGOUROUS use, and a good, telephone modem. So, don't get mail order, and don't get them at unauthorized Atari Dealers, make sure! Sheldon Chang, you might take a look in the phone book and find B & C Computer- visions which has handles Atari, at least as long as SJC. I use em both. If you live in the Santa Clara Valley, you should also be aware of HT Electronics at Maude and Mathilda in Sunnyvale and there's a store in Los Gatos whose name I forget who has really good prices. Not to mention Federated and Quement and Fry's Electronics

Oh, you mean, Los Gatos PC?
